Join us as we share the history and future of agricultural life in the South Valley at the historic house, history museum galleries, interpretive gardens, and working farms at Gutiérrez Hubbell House, a Bernalillo County Open Space.

There are opportunities for all levels of experience and commitment in all museum mission areas!

Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

K12 Lesson Leader:

Change a child’s life in an afternoon of local history. Find out more about becoming a lesson leader for elementary school field trips or help us develop new middle school and high school programs.

Training: one 2-hour session.
Time Commitment: four 2-hour visits; irregular, but scheduled in advance.

Museum Guide:

Lead groups on tours of the house, galleries, and grounds. Develop tours for the needs of different audiences.

Training: monthly 1-hour sessions plus one-time orientation if starting after April.
Time Commitment: three 30-60 minute tours/year; irregular, but scheduled in advance.

Gallery Attendant:

Greet visitors, offer brief orientations to the museum, and help with record-keeping, visitor studies, and historical research.

Training: one 30-minute session.
Time Commitment: 2-4 hour shifts, 1-4x per month, on a regular schedule.

Collections Assistant:

Assist in the documentation, care, and preservation of objects and architectural features in the gallery, house, and collections.

Training: on-the-job.
Time commitment: 4-8 hrs/week.

Field & Garden Assistant:

Help care for the interpretive gardens of medicinal, culinary, and heritage plants. Assist farmers in one of several fields. Participate in projects to enhance the gardens and grounds.

Training: on-the-job.
Time Commitment: variable

Garden Committee Member:

Help guide the planning and care for interpretive gardens. Participate in quarterly planning meetings and monthly work days.

Training: on-the-job.
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours/month.

Special Projects:

Ask us about special projects in all areas of our work, whether you want to be indoors or outdoors; public speaking or behind the scenes; working with plants, objects, documents, or people, we have a place for you!
